This wonderful impressionist oil painting of two mendicant children was done by American artist Conger A. Metcalf (1914-1998). Metcalf was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and later lived in the Boston, Massachusetts area, where he became well known for his unique figure-genre paintings with translucent washes of soft colors. Oil on panel, signed upper right, and housed in a wonderful polychrome gilt wooden Florentine frame.
