Romain de Tirtoff (Erté) Large Art Deco Style Wall Tapestry, "Top Hats"
A large and bold wall tapestry or multi dimensional hooked rug decorated with a woman dressed in the Art Deco style with faux pearls and six gentlemen in top hats with a geometric cityscape in the background. Signed lower left Erté, and also signed/dated on verso satin back “Erté, c 1986 by H.C.”. Erté was the pseudonym for Romain de Tirtoff (1892-1990). He was born in St. Petersburg,Russia, moved to Paris, and went on to design over 240 covers for Harper’s Bazaar Magazine, as well as other Art Deco designs, magazine illustrations, and sculptures. Excellent overall condition, with minor imperfections, wear, and slight curl to the sewn edges. Top has a velcro mounting for easy hanging. Dimensions: 80" h x 59" w x 2" d.
