This gelatin silver print portrait photograph of Paul Robeson in New York, circa 1952, was done by German American photographer Johanna Alexandra “Lotte” Jacobi (1896-1990). Jacobi was born in Thorn, Prussia (now Poland) and moved from Berlin, Germany to New York to New Hampshire, and became well known for her 20th century celebrated individual photographs including Albert Einstein, Robert Frost, Marc Chagall, and Eleanor Roosevelt, to name a few. Paul Robeson was a black actor, singer, and political activist during the McCarthy years This gelatin silver print is signed lower right, matted and framed under glass in a black wooden frame (some paint edge losses on frame) , with Robeson biography attached on verso.
