A pair of portraits of a gentleman and lady, circa 1790, by American artist William Jennys (1774-1859). Jennys was an well known itinerant portrait painter in the Connecticut area, New York, and later moving to Littleton, New Hampshire, where he lived until his death in 1859. Please refer to Nina Fletcher Little’s book “Paintings by New England Provincial Artists,1775-1800,” (MFA Boston), page 134. Each are oil on canvas, unsigned, and framed in splendid giltwood frames. Dimensions: Gentleman: 30” h x 25 ⅛” w, actual; 35 ¾” h x 30 ¾” w, framed. Lady: 30 ⅜” h x 25 ¾” w, actual; 35 ¾” h x 30 ⅞” w, framed.
