A rare example of an English student lamp with four arms extending from an adjustable center reservoir, perhaps used in a library or as a banker’s lamp. Lamp has nickel-plated finish and applied brass tag marked “Bright & Co. Late Argand & Co. Bruton St”. The gallery on each burner is impressed “Manhattan Brass Co. New York Pat’d May 23 76 – Dec. 25 77 – May 20 79″. Topped with four white milk glass shades with a ring handle. Probably dates to the late 19th century. Very good overall condition, with edge losses visible on two shades, as well as a crack visible on one. One chimney is chipped on bottom. Minor imperfections and expected surface wear from age and use. Dimensions: 26” h (fully extended handle) x 16” w x 16” d.
