This wonderful pastel painting of boats in the harbor at Venice with a faint view of the Duomo in the background was painted by American artist George Wainwright Harvey (1855-1930). Harvey was born in East Gloucester, Massachusetts , studying briefly under W.H.Weisman, and later traveling to Europe, where he was influenced by several of the Dutch impressionists. He became well known for his landscapes, marine, and genre paintings. Pastel on paper, signed lower right, framed under glass in a gilt frame.
