This enigmatic oil painting by New Hampshire artist, Sydney Thomas (1934 -), presents a rather disquieting image of a woman contemplating a new day. What will the daylight hours ask of her? Joy or sadness? Endurance? The viewer is left to speculate. Thomas paints her contemporary portraits with “old master” techniques of underpainting and glazing. Her paintings, which include landscapes, still lifes, and portraits, have appeared in galleries and shows throughout New England. Oil on linen, signed lower right, titled “Hello, Today,” and is housed in a dark gold frame. Dimensions: 20” h x 17” w, actual; 27 ¼” h x 24 ¼” w, framed.
