An oil painting portrait on canvasboard, purportedly of Albert Schweitzer, signed lower right H.B.R., 1958,” and inscribed in pencil on verso “Painted by Helen B. Ripley in 1958 for Jerome Davis,” unframed. Albert Schweitzer was a famous German/French theologian, organist, philosopher, physician, and medical missionary in Africa, also known for his historical work on Jesus. He went on to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952. This portrait appears to represent him in his African missionary environment. Dimensions: 22” h x 18” w, actual.
