This impressionist interior oil painting of a woman dozing off peeling onions in the kitchen was done by German / American artist Jean Mannheim (1863-1945). Mannheim was born in Kreuznach on the Nahe, Germany and later immigrated to the United States, where he painted in the Chicago area, finally setting in California, where he became known for his landscapes, portraits, and also as an instructor. Oil on canvas, signed lower right, and housed in a giltwood frame, with some minor edge losses. Dimensions: 32 ¼” h x 25 ¼” w, actual; 40” h x 33” w, framed.
