Roz Park Modernist Abstract Oil Painting
This untitled modernist abstract oil painting was done by New Hampshire Monadnock region artist Roz Park. Park was born in Groton, MA and has long been a Monadnock region resident. After an eight-year stay in New York City, and many summers spent with her family in France, Park has now returned to the Monadnock region where she lives and paints in her studio. With influences ranging from hill towns in France, Japan and her ancestry, Park’s vibrant large-scale oil paintings are kinetically charged and harmoniously vivid. Her enigmatic style taps into the subconscious with primordial-like forms and whorls of color. Park studied painting, photography and ceramics at Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. Her primary medium is now oil paint, yet she also works with watercolors, photography, fibers, and collage/assemblage of found objects and materials from nature. She draws inspiration from collage artists such as Joseph Cornell and painters such as Matisse. “They made me think that I could make things too – set pen to paper or cut things up,” states Park. “I do really think it’s about doing it or not. Textile and hand workers, like the Eastern European women who embroider, I revere as much as painters.” Roz Park’s work has been exhibited at Boston Center for the Arts’ Mills Gallery in Boston, as well as in numerous galleries throughout the Monadnock region.
