William Pierce Stubbs Marine Oil Painting of Schooner Clara Goodwin
This wonderful marine oil painting of the schooner “Clara Goodwin" sailing vessel was done by American artist William Pierce Stubbs (1842-1909). Pierce was born in Bucksport, Maine and moved to Charlestown, Massachusetts, where he became well known for his ship portraits. This painting portrays the big four-master in happier days, passing Minot’s Ledge Light off Cohasset and Scituate, Massachusetts in fine weather under full sail. Oil on canvas, signed lower left, and housed in a giltwood frame. Dimensions: 25" h x 42" w, actual; 32 1/8" x 49 3/8", framed.
