A rare example of a circa 1780-1790 English George III covered pewter oval knopped tobacco jar with inside oval knopped presser, and raised narrow reeded band at the top and bottom. An almost identical example (but engraved) is illustrated in Cotterell’s “Old Pewter- Its Makers & Marks,” pg. 144, fig. S. Comes with a Julius Garfinckel collection label. Very good overall condition, with minor imperfections, and expected wear from age and use. The cover knop appears to be pushed in slightly, along with some small lip bends. Overall dimensions: 5 ½” h x 5 ½” w x 4” d.
Featuring period furniture, fine art, quality porcelain, silver and decorative accessories.
