This beautiful oil painting landscape with sheep was painted by American artist Stephen Maxfield Parrish (1846-1938). Parrish was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and went on to become one of the leading etchers in America by the 1880’s, settling in Cornish, New Hampshire. He was the father of the renowned artist Maxfield Parrish, and even shared a studio with his son in Annisquam, Massachusetts for a few years, with coastal New England, Cape Cod, Cape Ann, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia landscapes as his focus. Oil on panel, signed lower right, framed in its original gold gilt frame, with partial Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts exhibition labels on verso. Dimensions: 18 ½” h x 12” w, actual; 26” h x 21” w, framed.
