This polychrome hand wrought sampler was done by eleven year old Harriet Cox and dated September 20, 1860. The sampler includes a full upper and lower case alphabet and number sequence up to 18, along with the following verse “Soon will the awful hour appear, When I must quit my dwelling here, These active limbs, to worms a prey, in the cold grave must waste away. Nor shall I share in all that’s done in this wide world, beneath the sun.” The sampler includes a border of alternating flowers, geometric designs, trees, plants, and birds. Excellent overall condition, retaining strong colors and professionally framed. It appears to have an additional linen backing which creates and three dimensional effect on this sampler. Dimensions: 12” h x 16” w, sight; 18 ¾” h x 15” w, framed.
