This wonderful oil painting was done by English/American artist Edward Barnard Lintott (1875-1951). Lintott was born in London, and after a long and distinguished career as an artist and also as the Secretary to the British Ambassador to Russia, he moved to New York just after the Depression, where he became well known for his landscapes and portrait painting, including a fascination for the theatre and ballet as subjects. This painting of Fats Waller and Myra Johnson on stage with a piano is an oil on canvas, signed upper right, and titled on verso label "Fats Waller and Myra," along with a partial Lawrence Rill Schumann Foundation (Boston) gallery label, and housed in a decorative period frame. There is also a graphite inscription on the verso stretcher "Lintott - Fats Waller and Myra." Dimensions: 20" h x 24" w, actual; 27" h x 31 ¼" w, framed.
