This wonderful 17th century colored print was originally drawn by Basilius Besler (1561-1629), a pharmacist from Nuremberg, Germany, who was also known as a botanist and collector of natural history specimens. He was best known for compiling the book known as the Hortus Eystettensis, the atlas of all the plants grown in the garden of the prince bishop of Eichstätt in Bavaria. This print, with Latin names under each plant, is triple matted and framed under glass, is in very good condition. The print measures 19 ½" h x 15 7/8" w, sight; 30 ¼" h x 26" w, framed.
