Upper case features three spiral-form finials and a broken arch pediment with scrolls culminating in beautifully carved floral rosettes. Paneled doors with serpentine moldings open to reveal a shelved interior. Lower case with slant-lid writing surface with three pull-out supports, the central of which is a smaller flat writing surface. The two side supports also function as shallow drawers. Three modified oxbow graduated drawers below. Interior with seven drawers over eight pigeonholes and central open compartment. French splayed bracket feet. Retains period, possibly original brass hardware. Height 96¾". Width 38". Depth 23½". Provenance: Wayne Pratt American Antiques & Accessories, Woodbury, Connecticut. From the Harry Z. Isaacs Collection at the Historic Long Branch Estate in Virginia. Condition Report: Refinished some time ago. Faint old split at slant lid. Restoration to hinges and desk surface of lid. Backboards stained but appear to be original. Two feet have had breaks that have been re-glued, but feet are original. Hardware replaced with period hardware. Lid with hinge replacement and restoration. One upper plinth appears to be a replacement. Upper case right-side door has restoration around hinges.
