This nice black patinated spelter sculpture of an elephant and its young was done by French artist Irenee Rochard (1906-1984). Irenee was born in Villefranche-sur-Saône, France and was a member of the French Artists Society as an animalist sculptor. The sculpture is mounted to an onyx base and signed on the lower right corner of the base. The tusks have been painted white. Condition is very good, with light surface wear visible. Dimensions: 21" h x 27" long x 8" deep, actual; onyx base is 3 1/4" on one end, 1 1/2" h on the other x 25" long x 7 3/4" deep .
