Wonderful oil painting of a limestone bust of an Egyptian prince titled "Bust of Prince Ankh-Haf" by American artist Joseph Lindon Smith (1863-1950). Smith was born in Rhode Island, lived and worked most of his life in New Hampshire and traveled extensively to study and paint archaeological sites. He was the honorary curator of the Egyptian department of the Boston Museum, and he taught at the Museum as well as at Harvard. In 1931 he was appointed President of the School of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. He was a member of the Society of Mural Painters, the Copley Society of Boston. He is known for painting figures, exotic landscapes and murals. Oil on board, signed lower right, typed description on reverse. Housed in original painted frame. In very good overall condition. Dimensions: 33.5"h x 23.5"l actual; 36"h x 26"l framed.
