Clarence Raymond Johnson (1894-1981) was born in Ohio and spent much of his life in Pennsylvania. The artist attended the Ohio School of Art in Columbus and the Pennsylvania Academy. He used his Impressionist style to paint rural landscapes. Often, he created a high vantage point in his works which allowed viewers to see expansive background of sky or hills. He chose to paint mainly in pastel shades creating a rich, atmospheric canvas.
