A fine set of six rush seat chairs, two armchairs and four side chairs with later polychrome foliate and gilt decoration. The armchairs have scroll carved arms and all have gilt spherules incorporated into the splats and stretchers. Provenance to noted early-twentieth-century collector Bertha King Benkard (1877–1945), was a prominent early leader in historic preservation, supervising the initial restoration of Sagamore Hill and Rock Hall. The chairs are in very good condition, with some rush seat losses, paint losses, and wear commensurate with age and use.
