Vintage emulsion transfer print of tulips displayed at the Tulip festival in Skagit, Washington. This is an original one-of-a-kind piece of artwork referred to as a monoprint that is signed by its creator. It is professionally matted under glass with what may also possibly be acid free matte board (see all eight Photos). The Seattle artist-photographer’s name is Ralph Widman and he signed this print in pencil along with the caption ‘Skagit Valley Tulips’. There is no date, but the Elko, Nevada, framer listed 5/99 in the date space on the tag placed on the back (see Photo of Green Tag). Consequently, this art work is ready to hang as is or can stand upright on its own if one selected to place it on a shelf, counter or mantle. The enameled metal frame has a satin finish and its green color perfectly accents the stems of the flowers.
The process used to produce this print results in a soft spectral or dream-like image of the flowers as the photos given here illustrate (see all Photos). The blooming tulips rise up and dominate the foreground beyond which all else is simply a blurr of pink, white and green trailing off into the horizon. The ten tulip flower heads subtly capture light coming in from the left. Below the blooms is a forest of stems with a few leaf tips also visible. The Skagit Valley tulip festival occurs in April each year and the actual timing of the blooms are controlled by Mother Nature. This print captures both the mysteries of early spring in the Northwest US and the ethereal and fragile nature of tulips.
Mr. Widman has been working in creative photography for more than 25 years and pursues several different mediums including digital photography, Polaroid transfer art (monoprints, etc.), colorful digital art, as well as traditional photography. Ralph’s creations have been featured on local Seattle posters, the Seattle magazine and even the TV show ‘Frasier.’

SIZE & CONDITION: The frame measures 10 5/16 inches tall, 8 1/4 inches wide and about 1 inch deep (thick). The image area measures 3 3/4 by 3 inches. The entire item weighs slightly over 1 1/4 lbs and so final shipping weight with the frame double packed is estimated to be about 2 1/2 lbs. The frame, matting and print are in excellent condition with no stains, scratches, foxing, repairs or alterations. Of course, if the buyer is not completely satisfied, then she/he may return this item for a refund as long as it was not damaged during shipping (see our complete return policy for all details as noted below).
SHIPPING: All US mainland buyers pay $8.20 for well packed USPS Priority Mail and this is an estimated savings of $1 to $3 since insurance and tracking are INCLUDED in this amount. Also, the insured postage you pay is less than our actual costs or we refund the difference back to you, and there are never any handling or packing fees charged for any Docs Antiques purchases.
