A fine antique English porcelain oval teapot stand by Chamberlain-Worcester with burnished gold and painted floral sprigs in Pattern #258 from about 1805 (c1800-1810). This stand is in perfect condition with absolutely no chips, stains, major scratches, or repairs. Also, the overglaze gold gilding is more than 99.7% intact and so this stand is nearly the same as it was when taken out of the muffle kiln more than 200 years. There is a pattern number hand painted in dark sepia brown on the back near the footring that is 258. A tea bowl and saucer in this same pattern is shown by Geoffrey Godden (in his book titled `Chamberlain-Worcester Porcelain 1788-1852' published in 1982 and revised 1992). Godden refers to the pattern as `Irish' and displaying `brown and gold springs and wreaths' from just after 1800. There are no other makers marks on this stand which is typical of Chamberlain's porcelain from this period. This stand is translucent and the last photo shows its translucency with a ruler placed under it when lighting it from the back (shadow of ruler is evident in photo).
The hand painted decoration on this stand is well rendered. It required over 350 brush strokes with some extremely fine painted details not noticeable unless studied up close. For example, the inner central flower has eleven fine barbs that were painted with a single thin hair. Other leaves and buds were painted with wider brushes and then touched up with a finer brush. The end result is a wonderful Chamberlain teapot stand in excellent condition for the English porcelain collector, dealer or connoisseur. Its simple oval shape is well balanced by the six sprigs and inner fringed undulating band while its rim has a burnished simple gold band. And so this stand displays well and is guaranteed to capture attention in any setting. It also comes with a full satisfaction guarantee or return it for a refund (see return policy for full details farther below, certain shipping costs & fees are nonrefundable).
SIZE: This stand is just under 7 inches long and 5 5/8 inches wide. The flat inner base will seat a teapot whose oval base measures 5.5 inches by 4 1/4 inches or less. The stand measures just under 1 inches tall along its rim. The stand has a footring that measures 5 1/4 inches by 4 inches. This stand is not too big as some later stands grew to be and so it will display well on a shelf, out in the open or in a cabinet with or without its perfect teapot mate.
CONDITION: This Chamberlain-Worcester porcelain stand has no chips, cracks, hairlines, star cracks, stains, major scratches, repairs or restorations. It does exhibit two small patches of scum on its backside where small brown pinholes and bubbles cluster under the glaze similar to some defects seen on 18th century Derby porcelain. The glaze is shiny and bright and has no crazing and the gold gilding is more than 99.7% intact. A better example would be hard to find today without paying twice as much as the price offered here.
