Antique yellowware pottery bowl or pan molded to look like a basket and dating from the mid 1800s (see all photos). This pan is large and measures 13 7/8 inches long by 11 1/8 inches wide. The inside of the dish has a off-white slip due to years of use suggesting that it may have been used for baking or dairying activities. The rim is gently curved outward which also suggests that the dish was made to be used as is and it did not have a cover. There is no makers marks or numbers impressed or printed on the base. The bowl weighs 4.5 lbs empty and its rather thickly potted with fine crazing suggesting that it may be from an American pottery (English yellowware is typically much thinner with pans and dishes often having recessed bases and foot rings and the glaze lacking crazing). The probable date of production for this bowl falls within the 1830-70 period. The interior white slip also displays crazing and has absorbed some grime and dirt from years of use. This pan has no major damage, chips or repairs (see Condition notes below). Basket molded yelloware is not common and to find an example measuring so large is unusual, indeed. This nice example will certainly capture attention in most any setting. If any viewer knows the pottery that may have produced this dish, kindly drop me an email - - thanks. And as always, this yellowware large pan also comes with a full satisfaction guarantee or return it for a refund (see return policy for full details farther below, certain shipping costs & fees are nonrefundable).
SIZE: This pan measures 13 7/8 inches long by 11 1/8 inches wide and stands 3 1/2 inches tall. It has a flat oval base that measures 10 1/2 inches by 6 1/2 inches. The dish is a nice size for displaying on a shelf, counter top, out in the open or on a china cabinet and will certainly capture attention in most any setting.
CONDITION: This large pan has no chips, cracks, rim hairlines, major scratches, repairs or restorations. The only declarations to mention that keeps it from being perfect is a tight basal y-hairline or spider that is only visible on the outside bottom (measures 2 inches long with two shorter 1 inch long y-branches, see photo with blue pencil pointing to the center of the y-hairline), the loss of a small patch of interior white slip (7/8 inches by 5/8 inches, see photo with white pen) and some mellowing and staining of the white slipped interior due to crazing and many years of use (e.g., crazing is the fine network of lines in the glaze caused by differential expansion and contraction from heating & cooling, a common characteristic of certain pottery wares even today). Please review the last three photos for the interior staining and the tight y-hairline. Finally, the exterior molding is strong and a better example would be hard to find today without paying a lot more than the price offered here. And if the buyer is not completely satisfied, then they may return this pan for a refund (see our refund policy noted below, shipping costs are not refunded).
SHIPPING: All US mainland buyers pay $21.80 for well packed and insured USPS Ground shipping (this is an estimated savings of about $3 to $8 since insurance and tracking are also INCLUDED in the above quoted amount for all mainland US addresses). A faster shipping option is also available, too (see shipping section below for Priority Mail option). No handling or packing fees are ever charged and fragile items will be double boxed for maximum protection. All international buyers will pay only the exact shipping costs for all verifiable locations outside the continental US mainland. Please note that import duties, taxes and other charges are not included in the item price or shipping costs and these additional charges are the Buyer's responsibility. We do offer a petition for VAT relief on the behalf of the buyer which may help reduce certain import taxes should your country allow such petitions for items over 100 years old. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to purchasing this item -- thanks.

Of course, never send an item back that was damaged by shipping since that will void the original insurance. Instead, contact us for help and we will gladly assist.
