Sterling Silver Match Safe Embossed with Man and Woman in an Antique Car.
We are very excited to offer this awesome antique match safe. The embossed scene depicts a man and woman in an antique car with a tree and shrubs in the background.
The golden age of match safes was around 1870 until the 1930s, when matchbooks and cigarette lighters obviated the need for most match holders.
In the late 1800s, men carried match safes in their coat pockets. These accessories were often more ornately decorated than their pocket watches or their wives’ jewelry.
The back of the safe shows a bit of age wear. There are some discolored spots and a minor dent but the front of the safe is in beautiful condition. The top lifts up easily. It's clearly marked "Sterling" and measures 1 3/4" X 2 1/4".
