Dating to ca. 1820-1830, I am pleased to present this museum-quality, Georgian-era Siberian amethyst paste, pearl and 18k pendant brooch for the consideration of my Ruby Lane clientele!
This is easily the most impressive and important Georgian paste-set jewel that I have acquired in the past several years. This magnificent pendant brooch features 13 Siberian amethyst pastes ranging in size from four to eighteen "carats" each! As most collectors know, Georgian amethyst pastes are the most beautiful and convincing to be produced during this era, and I had to loupe these stones for quite a while to realize that they were not the real thing! The total weight of the gemstones is approx. 115 " carats."
These gemstones are claw- and collet-set in a substantial mounting of 18k gold with a 22k gold wash. The pendant is also set with 14 natural half-pearls of 2 mm each, and six natural pearls of 4 mm each! Masterfully crafted, this fabulous pendant brooch is in amazing, all-original condition, without damage, replacements, or repairs! This jewel measures a massive 2 3/4" x 2", and the large 18k gold bail adds another 1/2" to the length, and it weighs a whopping 32.2 grams! The pendant is surmounted by a crown wrought in repousse, and the edges are framed by elegant scroll work. The center of the pendant also boasts pearls, cannetille and wirework in a daisy motif - simply ASTOUNDING!
All of the amethysts are claw-mounted in collets of 18k gold. These stones are free of chips or damage. This jewel retains what appears to be its original "T and C" pin clasp; I do not see any evidence of this having been added at a later date. There is also a hook at the bottom of the pendant to serve as a watch holder. Otherwise, it is just as fresh today as when it was worn by a lady of wealth and fashion nearly two centuries ago! This jewel is likely European in origin; it has no hallmarks, but all of the stones and the gold have been tested.
This magnificent jewel has survived the past 195 years in near-MINT condition, and is worthy of the finest collection. It looks fabulous on anything you wear it with, and is a real conversation piece! I cannot find words enough to describe the consummate beauty and rarity of this pendant brooch; suffice to say, it is an heirloom-quality jewel, and its value will only appreciate over time.
If you collect the ULTIMATE in Georgian-era jewelry, this highly-wearable museum-worthy jewel belongs in your collection! I do not expect to find another of this superb quality, workmanship and rare materials. Do not miss this impressive jewel; up to 90-day layaway is available, and USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
