Dating to c.1870-1880, this hefty, near-pristine, fully-enameled Tudor rose pendant/brooch comes straight out my my personal collection, but I rarely wear it, so I am presenting it for the first time for the consideration of my Ruby Lane clientele!
Measuring 1 1/4" in diameter and 1/2" thick, this remarkable jewel has everything going for it - it is wrought in 18k yellow gold, it is magnificently designed and constructed, boasts enameling and counter enameling, and is completed with an old mine cut diamond in the center! This substantial 18k gold jewel is hand-sculpted in the finest detail. In fact, this is the finest Victorian Tudor rose jewel I have ever seen; the petals of the York and Lancaster roses curl with realism, and the enameling. . . OH, the enameling!!!
This hand-sculpted jewel represents the finest lapidary work of the 19th century. The York rose is enameled in opaque white, and boasts enameling on every surface. The Lancaster rose is enameled in guilloche red, and the leaves are enameled in guilloche green. The center of the rose features a white, bright old mine-cut diamond weighing approx. 10 points. The diamond gives just the right amount of glitter to this already-gorgeous jewel! The reverse of the brooch is plain, polished gold, and retains it's original "T and C" clasp. There is a tiny, later mark of "18k" to the reverse, which I believe was added at a later date; tested,
This pendant/brooch has made it into the 21st-century in as fine a condition as the discerning collector could hope for; there is no damage, repairs, in-painting, or alterations to this remarkable English rose. The back of the jewel displays the untouched, almost iridescent patina which collectors crave! When I acquired this jewel for my own collection, I took it to my bench jeweler to have a 14k bezel brace made, so that this rose can be worn as a brooch or a pendant! I am including the converter with the brooch, as it makes it oh-so-versatile!
Moreover, this is a museum-quality jewel which looks just as lovely today as when it was first worn by an English lady of wealth and fashion in the 1870s! This beauty is very substantial; it weighs in at 17.89 grams of 18k gold! If you collect the ULTIMATE in Victorian enameled jewelry, this rose is waiting to bloom forever in your collection! It would also make a stellar gift for any lady fascinated with the history of England, and will be shipped in a gift box. DO not miss this timeless and top-quality jewel; up to 90-day layaway is available, and USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
