Dating to c.1790, this is the first Georgian-era gimmel ring that I have discovered in my 13 years as a Ruby Lane platinum-level dealer, and I am thrilled to present it for the consideration of my discriminating clientele!
Measuring 3/4" across the bezel x 8.3 mm wide at the front, this ring is nothing short of a miraculous survival, and it has made it through over 230 years in all-original condition! The gimmel ring first came into fashion during the 15th century, and has been in style ever since! The vast majority of these surviving rings are Victorian in date, and hide just a single heart, but but this example, hand-wrought in buttery 15k gold is pure Neoclassical Georgian, and boasts two hearts enjoined!
This complex jewel is constructed from three golden hoops; the clasped hands swivel open to reveal a third hoop decorated with a typically 18th-century double heart! The inner hoop is also beautifully scalloped; a feature often seen on early examples. The three hoops are secured by a pin at the rear of the shank. As with most rings of this era, this example is unmarked, but tests to 15k gold. Today, it makes for a spectacular sentimental ring for any lady who loves the romance of Georgian love jewelry!
This ring has managed to survive into the 21st-century in all-original, intact condition, without repairs! It is a size 5 1/2, and cannot be resized due to the complexity of its construction. Weighing in at 4.12 grams, this gimmel/fede ring is oh-so-wearable, and is certain to thrill the most discerning collector of Georgian-era jewelry. It would also make a thrilling and romantic gift for any lady who holds your heart, and will be shipped in a gift box.
If you collect the ULTIMATE in Georgian sentimental jewelry, this ring belongs on your hand and in your collection! Do not miss this early love jewel; up to 90-day layaway is available, and USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
