Dating to c.1680-1690, I am thrilled to present this magnificent, museum-quality Stuart posy ring for the consideration of my Ruby Lane clientele!
Wrought from 22k yellow gold, this marvelous posy ring is head and shoulders above most I see of this date; it is a substantial, sturdy jewel, is highly-wearable, and has made it into the 21st-century in nothing less than pristine condition! This solid gold ring measures 4 mm thick, and is wrought in the convex silhouette typical of the wedding bands of the late 17th century. It also boasts a charming sentiment, as well as the original maker's marks!
Inside the shank, the posy "God did decree our unity" is engraved in late 17th-century copperplate script, and the post is still crisp and legible after over 325 years! In fact, it is in as pristine a condition as the most discerning collector could imagine; it has never been altered! . The ring is also marked by the goldsmith, with the initials "TT" in Blackletter script. I have not discovered who this goldsmith is, but he was clearly patronized by the wealthiest in Stuart society, as this ring is not only substantial, weighing in at 5.03 grams, but beautifully-made and inscribed!
This ring is a size 7 1/2, and should NOT be resized, as to do so would destroy the posy, and therein sharply devalue this important sentimental jewel. Today, it would make a thrilling wedding or right-hand ring for either a lady or a gentleman, or a timelessly-wearable jewel for any collector of posy rings. This ring has not been cleaned, and boasts the original matte burial patina that collectors treasure, as it is evidence of it's great age! JUST FANTASTIC!
If you collect the best in investment-worthy antique jewelry, this posy ring belongs on your and and in your collection! It would also make a thrilling gift for any collector of these ultra-romantic early rings, and will be shipped in a gift box. Do not miss this exquisite posy ring; up to 120-day layaway is available, and USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
