Dating to c.1810-1820, this splendid blue enameled Regency-era locket is a beautiful example of Georgian jewelry that won't break the bank!
Crafted in 9k gold for the front and back with heavily-gold cased frame, this locket looks just as fresh as when it was first worn by a lady of wealth and fashion nearly two centuries ago (gold unmarked but tested)! This cunning locket boasts rich, cobalt blue enamel on the front with engine-turned engraving. The back of the locket also reveals intricate wavy engine-turned decoration, with a round cartouche for an initial, which was never engraved.
The frame of the locket is heavily gold-cased, and displays the deep chasing and engraving typical of lockets and watch fobs dating from 1810-1840. The locket even retains it's original faceted gold split ring bail! As with most Regency-era lockets, this example opens from the back to reveal the original optical crystal and liner. It appears that the only sign of wear is to a tiny split in the hinge, but it is easy to take the crystal in and out to set your own lock of hair or other romantic token! The crystal has slight magnification (another sign of excellent, Regency-era craftsmanship), and still sits securely in it's counter-enameled bezel.
Simply a fabulously-wearable example of enameled Regency-era English jewelry, this locket looks wonderful worn on a fine gold chain, or on a black ribbon around the neck in true Jane Austen style! Weighing in at 9.54 grams, this is a substantial jewel that looks great worn with anything from blue jeans to a cocktail dress, and is in all-around excellent condition for a jewel entering it's third century!
If you love the finest in Georgian-era jewelry, this locket will make a splendid addition to your collection! It would also make a thoughtful gift for any lady fond of antique English jewelry, and will be shipped in a gift box.
