Attention cat lovers! Dating to c.1775-1785, this stunning Neoclassical armorial fob seal is a stunning jewel that features the King of the Beasts!
Measuring 1 1/2" tall and 1" x 3/4" across the carnelian armorial seal, this elegant fob seal is heavily clad in 15k gold, and boasts an elegant, fluted handhold decorated on all sides with charming forget-me-nots! This form is oh-so-Neoclassical, and would have been at the height of fashion during the 1770s-1780s. But turn the seal over, and it gets even better!
The seal is cut from deepest-red carnelian, and features a stunning image of an armorial lion! The lion faces right, his teeth bared and tongue showing, as if about to attack. His whiskers and mane are carved in the finest detail, and there is a laurel wreath around it's neck. This image is simply fabulous, and was clearly cut by a master! I do not know what family this armorial represents, but it would make a fascinating project for the new owner!
Weighing in at 8.48 grams, this seal looks equally impressive worn by a 21st-century lady as a pendant, or by a gentleman on a watch chain! Best of all, it is in superbly-preserved condition, without damage or repairs! If you collect the BEST in Georgian-era fob seals, this kitty wants to make it's den in your collection! It would also make a stellar gift for any lady or gentleman fascinated with lions or English heraldry, and will be shipped in a gift box. Do not miss this Georgian beauty; up to 30-day layaway is available, and USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
