Dating to c.1840-1850, this rare pair of Early Victorian Scottish banded agate and fluorite earrings make a wonderful statement at an affordable price!

Measuring a grand 3" long from the tops of their 14k gold ear wires x 3/4" at their widest points, these earrings are a superb example of early Victorian Scottish jewelry! When Queen Victoria fell in love with Scotland and Balmoral Castle in 1842, her adoration for all things Scottish became highly fashionable. Soon, Scotland was producing it's own jewelry with distinctly Scottish themes, and set with native agates, citrines, and amethysts. These wonderfully-wearable earrings are a fabulous example of early Victorian Scottish-made jewelry!

The tops of the earrings are set with a bead of polished fluorite measuring 8 mm in diameter; this warm-hued, whitish stone has a chatoyant effect with a characteristically matte surface, allowing light to play over the gem much like a cat's eye. Descending from these tops are two faceted drops of banded agate in shades of white, caramel, mocha, and dark chocolate, capped with copper gilt, and set into the MOST wonderful engraved thistle-motif frames!

The frames are wrought from copper-gilt, which still retain 90% of their original gilding. These hand-cut frames feature the delicate, highly-detailed engraving which I associate with jewelry of the Romantic Era (1835-1860), and the lacy vine terminate in a charming thistle at the bottom! The agate drops and the frames swing freely, giving these earrings a wonderful sense of movement! Best of all, they are oh-so-impressive on the ear, making a super-feminine statement!

These earrings have survived the past 170+ years in all-around excellent condition. The only replacement is to the earring tops; when I received these superb drops, the original ear wires had long been lost, so I matched the tops from a pair of early Victorian 14k fluorite earrings that I had been saving for just this sort of conservation! The golden-white fluorite matches the banded agates beautifully, and has given this pair of earrings a new lease on life! The drops are 100% all-original, without damage or repairs to the agate or the settings. SO SPECIAL!

Needless to say, these earrings are oh-so-beautiful on the ear, and at 6.69 grams, are very comfortable to wear. Today, these earrings instantly dress up any outfit, and will make you feel like the Queen of Balmoral! If you collect the finest in Scottish Victorian jewelry, these earrings are certain to become a prized addition to your collection. They would also make a stellar gift for any lady fond of historic antique earrings, and will be shipped in a gift box. Do not miss these one-of-a-kind Highland beauties; 30-day layaway is available, and USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
