Dating to c.1770, this French sterling-grade silver and rose-gold jewel is set with sparkling table-cut and rose-cut diamonds!

Measuring a grand 3 1/8" long x 2" wide for the pendant/brooch and 16" for the modern sterling silver chain, this glittering jewel would have begun its 245+ history as a stomacher sewn on to a lady's gown, but with the addition of a sterling silver chain, it makes a phenomenal pendant OR brooch for the 21st-century lady!

Wrought from sterling-grade silver, this three-segmented jewel boasts fabulous silver openwork design in a floral motif, with the silver vines and leaves twinging round diamond-set blossoms! The top segment measures 2" x 1" and, as is the case with many of these French regional jewels, the focal point is a large silver "cone" set against a 9k gold plate which holds a table-cut diamond weighing approx. 5 points. Either side of the jewel is set with 11 rose-cut diamond "sparks" weighing approx. 1-3 points each.

The second and third segment form an elegant cross, with the arms and corpus represented by a second cone-shaped, gold-backed silver boss set with a table-cut diamond weighing approx. 5 points. The three arms of the cross are set with rose-cut diamonds, and and there are four gold-topped flowers, also set with rose-cut diamond sparks. The bottom drop of the pendant is topped with a diamond-set flower, and the pear-shaped drop is set with a rose-cut diamond weighing approx. 7 points. That adds up to 22 diamonds, which give this beautiful jewel just the right amount of fire!

All of the diamonds are set in closed-backed collets of sterling-grade silver and 9k gold (unmarked but tested). Best of all, this stunning piece has made it into the 21st-century in outstanding condition! It is 100% intact, without losses or replacements. Some time around 1800, by which time stomacher jewels had fallen out of fashion, a previous owner added the "T and C" steel pin and clasp you see on the reverse. I have also added a silver chain, so that this versatile piece can be worn as a brooch or a pendant! This piece has not been cleaned, and the silver and gold have developed the rich, desirable age patina which can only come from generations of gentle wear. JUST SPLENDID!

Simply a beautiful example of French regional lapidary work, this necklace looks fabulous worn with anything from a business suit to a ball gown, and WHAT a history! If you collect the finest in Georgian-era jewelry, this stunner belongs around your neck and in your collection! It would also make a thrilling holiday gift for any lady fond of the finest in antique diamond jewelry, and will be shipped in a gift box. Do not miss this rare survival; up to 90-day layaway is available, and USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
