Dating to c.1770 for the white paste and sterling silver Sevigne bow and drop and c.1880 for the neck chain, this jewel is a wonderfully-wearable necklace at an unbeatable price!
Measuring 15 1/2" long for the sterling silver chain and 1 3/4" wide x 2" long for the pendant, this necklace will make you feel as if you stepped right out of the French court of Louis XVI! This beautifully-preserved jewel boasts a crowned Sevigne bow with double ribbon loops and a lush, pear-shaped drop terminating in a triangular paste-set drop!
This jewel epitomizes all that is so lovely about the paste jewelry of the 18th-century - it is large and lovely, yet looks oh-so-feminine on the neck, and it has made it into the 21st-century in as fine a condition as the most discerning collector could hope for! This pendant boasts dozens of smaller, cushion-shaped pastes which are graduated in size from 2.5 mm up to 4.1 mm each, and two large round- and pear-shaped stones measuring 7.5 mm in diameter and 10 mm x 7 mm respectively! All of the pastes are pave-set in rubbed-over, foiled, closed-backed settings of sterling silver (unmarked but tested). As with all paste of this early date, each stone displays the black spot of pitch at the culet, and every single stone is original to the pendant!
Sometime c.1880, a descendant of the original owner of this jewel added the sterling silver chain you see here at the terminals of the Sevigne bow; even the Victorians knew that the finest paste was made in England and France during the second half of the 18th century, and it was considered too precious and wearable to discard! This bit of alteration gave this stunning bow and drop a new lease on life, and this jewel looks just as lovely today as when it adorned the gown of a lady in the 1770s, and the neck of a creative lady of fashion over a century later! SO CHARMING!
Simply a stunning example of Georgian-era paste jewelry, this pendant sits "just so" on the neck, and the chain measures 15 1/2" wearable length. Best of all, it adds history and sparkle to anything you choose to wear it with, from a business suit to a cocktail dress! This heirloom-worthy necklace is certain to become a staple of any lady's antique jewelry wardrobe, and all of the elements are intact; there are no "dead" or water-damaged pastes here! This jewel has not been cleaned, and boasts a wonderful patina which only the passing of generations can impart. The necklace also retains it's original Victorian bolt ring clasp. The necklace weighs 19.16 grams.
If you collect the finest in Georgian paste jewelry, this beauty belongs around your neck and in your collection! It would also make a thrilling holiday gift fro any lady fond of the best in early jewelry, and will be shipped in a gift box. Do not miss this delightful jewel; up to 45-day layaway is available, and USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
