Dating to c.1850-1860, this superb mid-Victorian teal blue necklace is a timelessly-wearable classic in a rare color!

Measuring 17 1/2" long x 3/8" at it's widest point, this beautiful paste necklace is comprised of 24 gorgeous, deep teal blue pastes collet-set in rubbed-over, closed-backed settings of sterling silver (silver unmarked but tested)! Each paste measures 11 mm x 7.5 mm and weighs approx. 5 "carats." This exquisite example could easily be mistaken as Georgian, but the lack of foils at the backs of the stones and the rubbed-over (rather than cut-down) settings point to a Victorian date.

This beautiful jewel is expertly-crafted, and in my 25+ years as an an antique jewelry dealer, collector and scholar, I have never seen this shade of rich teal blue, in reference books, or out! This necklace is the perfect length; most Victorian riviere necklaces are too short for modern wear, but this jewel has length to spare! It has also survived the past 160+ years in exquisite condition; it shows the expected signs of gentle wear, but there is no damage or repairs to either the stones or the settings, and the back of the necklace is free of dents or dimples! JUST SPLENDID!

The necklace terminates in a hand-wrought hook-and-eye closure which is original to this lovely jewel. (Georgian examples always have box-style clasps). Simply a breathtaking example of Victorian jewelry, this necklace is timelessly-wearable, and looks fabulous worn with anything from a business suit to a cocktail dress! Weighing in at 31.51 grams, this is a substantial and glamorous example of a Victorian-era riviere, and just LOOK at that color!

If you collect the best in riviere necklaces, this brilliant beauty belongs around your neck and in your collection! It would also make a thrilling holiday gift for any lady fond of the finest in antique necklaces, and will be shipped in a gift box. (Please also check out the Georgian and Queen Anne paste necklaces I have listed this week!) Do not miss this rarity; up to 45-day layaway is available, and USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
