Dating to c.1890, this French diamond ring is a Belle Epoque treasure that is sure to be at the top of any lady's wish list!
Measuring a luscious 1" x 1/2" across the bezel, this high-karat "cobblestone" diamond ring is packed with dazzling old mine-cut diamonds in a design that has transcended the whims of fashion to become a classic! Wrought in buttery 18k yellow gold, this ring boasts a total of eighteen full, old mine-cut diamonds varying in size from 5.15 x 4.25 x 2.92 mm for the four largest, down to 2.73 x 2.44 x 1.61 mm for the smallest! Of course, all of these diamonds are hand-cut and hand-bruted, with the open culets, small tables, and chunkiness which make each stone one-of-a-kind!
The total weight for the four largest diamonds add up to approx. 1.57 carats on their own! As most collectors know, antique diamonds cannot be graded according to modern standards, but these gems appraised as G/H in color and VS1-SI1 clarity - very white and bright for diamonds of this considerable age! The second-largest diamonds measure 3.92 mm x 3.23 mm x 2.21 mm and weigh just over .35 carat. The twelve smallest diamonds add up to .79 ct. for a total carat weight of 2.71 carats of dazzling antique diamonds!
All of the diamonds are bead-set in a hefty mounting of 18k yellow gold, with tab edges, and an elegant, basket-style setting rising above the simple hoop shank. Best of all, this ring has made it through the past 125+ years in all-original condition, right down to the two French eagle's head hallmarks on the outside of the shank (indicating 18k gold; tested)! The diamonds were not removed from their settings, and old mine cuts are chunky, so the total gemstone weight is likely closer to 2.9 carats.
Simply a show-stopper of an investment-quality, late-Victorian ring, this stunning jewel is magnificently-wearable, and shoots out white fire from every angle! As with most antique diamond rings packed with so many stones, a few (5) of the diamonds have very minor chips; this is absolutely invisible without the aid of a 10x loupe, and is to be expected in a diamond ring of this great age. However, my graduate gemologist agreed that, given its overall condition and inherent value, this bit of wear does not affect the integrity of this outstanding French ring. She appraised this ring at $8,300.00, and this appraisal will be included with the ring at no extra charge!
This ring is a size 7 1/2, but the plainness of the rear of the shank would allow for easy re-sizing, but I advise that this only be done by laser, as heat may harm the original French hallmarks on the outer shank. Needless to say, this ring lights up the hand like a plaque of white and gold fire, and is truly investment-worthy! The ring weighs in at 6.71 grams, and looks just as impressive today as when it was first sported by a French lady of wealth and fashion over a century ago!
If you love the finest in antique French or diamond rings, this beauty belongs on your hand and in your collection! It would also make the MOST breathtaking holiday gift for that special lady, and will be shipped in a gift box. Do not miss this late-Victorian dazzler; up to 6 month layaway is available, and USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
