I am back from my UK buying trip, and have brought back a treasury of early, investment-quality jewels for the consideration of my holiday-shopping Ruby Lane clientele!
Dating to c.1860-1870, this magnificent high-Victorian bracelet is not only a gorgeously-wearable jewel, it is absolutely pristine after over 145+ years of gentle wear! When I first beheld this bracelet in Bath, I gasped - never before have I seen such a superb Victorian bracelet in this practically untouched condition! It is just as fresh as when it was first worn by a lady of wealth and fashion in the 1860s, and represents a great investment opportunity for the discriminating collector!
Measuring 1 1/8" x 1 1/8" across the top medallion and 1/2" wide, this fantastic work of the Victorian lapidary's art boasts a luscious, large lapis lazuli cabochon measuring 13 mm in diameter, and weighing approx. 7 carats! This untreated stone is the MOST delectable shade of deepest royal blue, with flecks of gold visible in the matrix! The cabochon is collet-set into a box-like, closed backed panel of 15k yellow gold, which is hand-engraved and enameled with Celtic knot work motifs in robins' egg blue enamel! JUST SPECTACULAR!
The front of the body of the bracelet is also engraved at the edges with egg-and-dart decoration, with the back of the cuff-style body simply polished. Not only is this bracelet a joy to behold, it is superbly-constructed! Unlike most cuff-style bracelets of the mid-Victorian era, this jewel is ingeniously constructed to allow for putting on the wrist with ease; the front panel along with the side is invisibly hinged, allowing the jewel to be opened a bit further than if a single hinge was implemented. This, along with the magnificent hand-engraving and enamel speaks of a bracelet made by a highly skilled Victorian jeweler!
Best of all, this bracelet is just as wearable today as when it as first proudly worn by a lady of wealth and fashion in the 1860s, and has escaped the dings and dents typical of Victorian gold bracelets of this era. It even retains it's original safety chain! This jewel will fit a wrist up to 7" in diameter, but it will best suit a lady with a slimmer hand. Needless to say, it looks spectacular on the arm, and is a substantial jewel, weighing in at 25.84 grams!
If you collect the ULTIMATE in fine Victorian jewelry, this example belongs on your wrist and in your collection! It would also make a superb holiday gift for any lady fond of the BEST in Victorian jewelry, and will be shipped in a gift box. This is the sort of bracelet I would love to keep for my own collection, but it is time for holiday shopping, so let my loss be your gain! Do not miss this English treasure; up to 90-day layaway is available, and USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
