Dating to c.1760-1770, this magnificent "Queen Anne" French jet and silver gilt riviere necklace is a fabulously-wearable rarity!
Measuring 15 1/4" long x 3/8" wide (easily made longer with ribbons or jump rings), and 1" in diameter for the pendant, this amazing survival is wrought from sterling-grade silver fire-gilded with high-karat gold, and is one of the finest examples that this antique jewelry dealer and collector of 25+ years has ever discovered (all metals unmarked but tested)!
This beautiful jewel is comprised of oval and navette-shaped faceted plaques of French jet, tab-- and collet-mounted into hand-wrought settings of silver gilt! As with most "Queen Anne" jewelry of the mid 18th-century, all of the collets boast knife-edging, and the oval discs boast wonderful, silver gilt Rococo scrolls on either side! Even better, a silver-gilt true lover's knot is set between every third link - how fabulous is THAT?? The back of the necklace also displays rare cutwork to many of the links; a detail which would have required extra care on the part of the lapidary who crafted this splendid necklace over 250 years ago!
Best of all, this jewel has made it into the 21st century in PRISTINE condition, without losses, damage, or repairs! The terminals of the jewel are represented by simple "d-shaped" loops, through which a ribbon would be threaded and tied at the back of the neck by a Georgian lady of wealth and fashion. When I acquired this jewel, it was a simple riviere-style necklace with a tab at the center link for the option of adding a pendant. I have added the drop pendant (once a lush earring) which dates to c.1765, and is perfectly in keeping with the materials and style of the necklace, so this beauty can be worn with or without the drop! It is like getting to jewel in one, and is so very versatile!
Simply a breathtaking example of the jewelry of the 1760s, this jewel looks oh-so-glamorous on the neck; the faceted French jet really glitters, and the look translates perfectly into any modern lady's wardrobe! I am also offering a pair of black jet Queen Anne earrings that match this splendid jewel this week! If you collect the BEST in Georgian jewelry, this investment-worthy necklace belongs around your neck and in your collection! It would also make a splendid gift for any lady fond of historic jewelry, and will be shipped in a gift box. Do not miss this one-of-a-kind stunner; up to 90-day layaway is available, and USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
