Dating to c.1800-1810, these magnificently-preserved Georgian pansy-motif earrings represent a gorgeously-wearable, heirloom-worthy pair of jewels!
Measuring a perfectly-proportioned 1 3/4" long x 5/8" at their widest points, these earrings boast large garnet- and pearl-set pansies crafted from flat-cut garnets and seed pearls, and are mounted in 9k gold! The tops of these lovely jewels are set with three flat-cut garnets, from which descend these cunning flowers. In the Regency-era language of flowers, the pansy represented fond thoughts. This was a play on the French word "pensee," or "to think." If a lady was given the gift of a pansy or a jewel shaped on pansy form, she knew that someone was thinking fondly of her!
These blossoms are truly gorgeous, and each measure 1/2" x 5/8". The wine-red garnet petals are cunningly set with a slight curve to better imitate the realism of a genuine flower, and a silvery white seed pearl nests in the center of each pansy. As is to be expected in jewelry of this date, all of the gemstones are set in cut down, foiled, closed-backed collets of 9k gold. These earrings are English in origin, and are expertly crafted; the mountings are kept to a minimum, as was the fashion for all gemstone jewelry crafted during the first decade of the 19th century. SO LOVELY!
Best of all, these elegant earrings have made it through the past 200+ years in a magnificent state of preservation! The only replacement is to the ear wires, which were replaced c.1910 after the originals wore out after over a century of wear. The ear wires are wrought in 10k gold. These fabulous jewels are in fresh-as-a-daisy condition, with absolutely no wear to the stones or foils. The garnets, pearls and gold are free from damage and repairs. These were not adapted from a larger piece of jewelry; these pansies have always been earrings!
Simply a superb example of Regency-era jewelry, these earrings look smashing worn with anything from a business suit to a ball gown, and what a history! If you love the finest in Georgian jewelry, these will become your "go-to" earrings for any occasion, and are truly investment-worthy. They would also make a stellar gift for any lady fond of the best in historic jewelry, and will be shipped in a gift box.
