Dating to c.1810, this Regency-era citrine and paste pendant is a highly-wearable Georgian jewel as well as a rare survival!
Measuring 1 5/8" long including the original solid 12k gold bail x 1 1/8" wide, this sublime pendant epitomizes everything that is so wonderful about jewelry of the early 19th century. The star of this jewel is the massive natural citrine, which measures 30 mm x 22 mm x 6 mm and weighs a calculated 24.45 carats on its own!
This citrine is beautiful shade of vivid, golden honey yellow, and is clear as a bell! It has been expertly hand-cut and hand-faceted, so it catches every angle of the light! The citrine is mounted in a rubbed-over, open-backed frame of 12k gold. Surrounding this sun-like gem are a halo of 20 bright, white pastes, each measuring 4 mm in diameter and weighing 1/3 "carat" each. As is typical in jewelry of the second decade of the 19th-century, the pastes are set in rubbed-over, foiled, closed-backed collets of sterling silver gilded on the reverse with 15k gold.
As is to be expected in genuine George III paste, each stone displays the "black spot" of pitch at the culet. All of the pastes are intact, as are the foils; there are no "dead" or damaged stones here! The result is a timeless jewel that looks just as beautiful on the neck today as it was when it was first worn by a lady of wealth and fashion in the era of Jane Austen!
Weighing in at 15.66 grams, this elegant pendant is in as fine a state of preservation as the most discerning collector could hope for. It is free of damage, repairs, or losses! This pendant looks smashing worn with anything from blue jeans to a cocktail dress! Wear it on a gold chain, or on a silk ribbon in true Regency style; you are certain to get compliments galore!
If you collect the finest in historic jewelry, this 210-year-old beauty belongs around your neck and in your collection!
