Dating to c.1855-1865, these magnificent cameo earrings of Bacchus are head-and-shoulders above most Victorian cameo jewels in both quality and wearability!
Measuring a perfectly-proportioned 7/8" long x 3/4" wide, each of these beautiful earrings feature a hand-carved shell cameo of Bacchus, the Roman God of wine and revelry, in the finest detail! He holds his be-ribboned thrysus over one shoulder, and wears a chiton clasped with a ram's head motif jewel! His face is also carved in the finest detail! Moreover, one portrait faces left, the other, right, one another so as to perfectly frame the wearer's face; this is another sign of the finest workmanship!
Each cameo is set in a rubbed-over frame of 14k gold which protects both the front and back of the shell cameos. Best of all, thee jewels have made it into the 21st-century in fresh-as-a-daisy condition, without cracks, damage, or even age lines; these earrings were obviously treasured over many generations!
