Dating to 1810-1820, this magnificent Georgian ring boasts a massive foiled amethyst set in high-karat gold!
Measuring a grand 1" x 7/8" across the bezel, this splendid ring has survived two centuries in superb, all-original condition, and is the perfect statement piece for the 21st-century lady! The star of this ring is the massive oval faceted amethyst, which measures 23 mm x 10.5 mm x 7 mm and weighs a calculated 11.9 carats! This natural stone is a delightful shade of medium violet, which is enhanced by the pink foil so that it shoots out purple fire from every direction!
The amethyst is set in a pushed-up, closed-back collet of 18k gold (unmarked but tested). The jewel is framed with elegant gold cannetille rosettes topped with tiny golden beads, which is perfectly in keeping with the jewelry of the second and third decades of the 19th century. As with most Georgian-era rings, this example features a convex "pillow" back. The shank is a simple hoop of18k gold, and best of all, this ring is as sound and wearable as the day it was first worn by a lady of wealth and fashion in the Regency era! SO GORGEOUS!
Weighing in at a substantial 6.13 grams, this regal jewel makes the FINEST dress ring, and just look at the quality of craftsmanship! This ring is a size 5 3/4, but the plainness of the rear of the shank would allow for easy re-sizing by a good bench jeweler. However, I would strongly recommend that it be sized only by laser, as the foils of foil-backed stones are vulnerable to heat. This ring looks fabulous on the hand, and is in as fine a condition as the most discerning collector could hope for, without damage or repairs!
Simply a breathtaking example of Regency-era jewelry, this investment-worthy ring is a real show-stopper! If you collect the ULTIMATE in antique jewelry, this ring belongs on your hand and in your collection! It would also make a stellar gift for any lady fond of the finest in antique jewelry, and will be shipped in a gift box. This is the sort of ring I would love to keep for my own collection, but I must pay the bills, so let my loss be your gain!
