Dating to c.1880, this romantic Victorian banded agate pendant is one of the MOST impressive banded agate jewels I have discovered in my 12+ years as a Ruby Lane Platinum-level shop owner!
Measuring 2 3/4" long from the top of the bail and 2" x 2" on it's own, this lovely jewel has made it through the past 135 years in nothing short of PRISTINE condition, and boasts a large, faceted banded agate heart weighing literally hundreds of carats! The vast majority of Victorian-era banded jewelry on the market today take the form of beads or cabochons; this marvelous jewel is actually hand-faceted top to bottom!
Two chains depend from the bail into the bright gilt frame, and the heart itself is set in it's own rubbed-over setting of copper-gilt. The heart boasts superb banding in shades of palest caramel, rich toffee, white, deepest brown and black, and it is clear that the lapidary chose this specimen for it's beauty and symmetry! The frame is copper-gilt (copper base with high-karat fire gilding), and sports a lovely twist design.
Best of all, this exquisite pendant is free from any visible wear whatsoever, and is just as fresh as when it was worn by a lady of fashion c.1880! It looks superb worn on a gold chain, and can be worn with anything from blue jeans to that little black dress! Weighing in at 30.43 grams, this is a substantial jewel which is certain to become a "go-to" addition to your existing Victorian banded agate jewelry. It would also make a romantic gift for that special lady who loves fine antique jewelry, and will be shipped in a gift box.
Do not miss rare love jewel; I do not expect to find another like it! Layaway is not available on this item, but it is priced for fast sale, and USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
