Dating to c.1885-1895, this magnificent color change sapphire and diamond ring is a sapphire-lover's dream come true!
Measuring 14 mm x 11 mm, the bezel of this exquisite Victorian ring is set with a truly dazzling, untreated color change sapphire of the absolute BEST quality! The sapphire measures 7.72 mm x 5.77 mm x 3.75 mm and weighs a calculated 1.7 carats. This sapphire is one truly phenomenal stone; in natural light, it is a luscious shade of vivid, velvety royal blue, but under incandescent light, it turns to a vibrant shade of violet-red!
This sapphire has been tested and appraised by a GIA graduate gemologist, and the report shows no sign of heat treatment under 30x magnification. The color of the stone rates B 5/6 on the GIA scale, changing to a strong reddish purple (GIA rP 5/5) under direct light. This is the sort of investment-quality, untreated antique color-change sapphire that collectors dream of!
Surrounding this superb gem are a halo of 10 old mine-cut diamonds measuring an average of 2.86 mm x 2.57 mm, and two additional old-mine cut diamonds illuminate the shoulders of this outstanding jewel. The diamonds grade to F/G color and VS clarity. That adds up to over 2.61 carats of brilliant, all-natural gemstones which light up on the hand! It is just as beautiful today as when it first adorned the hand of a lady of wealth and fashion in the 1890s! JUST SPECTACULAR!
All of the gemstones are claw- and bead-set into a lovely setting of 18k yellow gold (marked 18CT; tested). This ring is absolutely breathtaking on the hand, and would make a fabulous engagement ring for that special lady, or a thrilling right-hand ring for any collector of fine, untreated sapphires! The ring is a size 7, and appears to have never suffered re-sizing, but it could easily be re-sized for little cost by a good bench jeweler.
Weighing in at 4.49 grams, this ring will be sold with the GIA insurance appraisal for $7,000.00. Most fine jewelry stores would price this ring at very close to the replacement value, but I got a good deal, so why shouldn't you? This ring is truly investment-worthy, and is guaranteed to appreciate in value over time! If you collect the NE PLUS ULTRA in untreated sapphire or diamond rings, this Victorian beauty belongs on your hand and in your collection!
