Dating to c.1780-1790 for the coral cameo and bezel and c.2005 for the 14k shoulders and shank, this ring comes straight from my personal collection of Georgian jewelry, and is proof that some marriages are made in Heaven!
Measuring 1" long x 5/8" wide, the bezel of this beautiful jewel is set with the MOST exquisite red Italian coral cameo portrait of a lady of fashion, her head slightly turned, and wearing her flowing hair tied back with a bandeaux, with "love locks" falling over her shoulders. The subject wears a square-necked gown with a bow at the bodice. The lady is cunningly carved in high relief, and her lidded eyes, full cheeks, and sweet expression epitomize all that is so wonderful about the portrait cameos of the last quarter of the 18th century. The cameo is in exquisite condition, without cracks or major surface wear after over 230 years!
The bezel of this ring began its long life as a cravat pin, but as cravats have fallen from fashion, I knew that this jewel was begging to be made into a wearable ring! The cameo retains it's original 12k rubbed-over bezel; I had my jeweler fashion the shoulders and shank from 14k gold. I ensured that the ring had split shoulders, in keeping with the ring designs of the 1780s, and now, this gorgeous cameo has been given a new lease on life! I have enjoyed wearing this ring for a decade, but as I very rarely wear it, I have decided to offer it for the consideration of my Ruby Lane clientele!
This is a beautiful as well as a substantial ring, weighing in at 6.91 grams. It is a size 5 3/4, but the plainness of the rear of the shank would allow for re-sizing by a good bench jeweler for little cost. Simply a rare and highly-wearable ring, this beautiful maiden deserves to be worn proudly, and is certain to compliment your existing antique coral jewelry!
If you collect the BEST in Georgian-era coral, this lovely lady belongs on your hand and in your collection! It would also make a stellar gift fro any lady fond of the finest in 18th century coral jewelry, and will be shipped in a gift box. Do not miss this maiden; up to 60-day layaway is available, and USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
