Dating to c.1900-1910, I am thrilled to present this magnificent untreated Ceylon sapphire, diamond, and platinum ring for the consideration of my Ruby Lane clientele!
Measuring 9 mm x 8.8 mm across the bezel, this superb Belle Epoch ring holds a truly precious gemstone; this old-cut Ceylon sapphire is the finest I have discovered in my 25+ years as a collector, dealer, and scholar of antique jewelry! This superlative, hand-cut and faceted gemstone measures 8.5 mm x 8.4 mm x 5.9 mm and weighs a calculated 3.63 carats! This stone pre-dates high heat treatment and irradiation by over 65 years, and is a truly breathtaking shade of rich, royal blue with the undertone of violet which characterizes the finest natural sapphires!
I also happen to have a bit of history on this important ring; I purchased it from an elderly collector who reported that this ring had belonged to her mother. The sapphire was originally set in her grandfather's stick pin, and was mounted into the platinum and diamond ring setting that you see here c. 1905 (platinum unmarked but tested)! This indicates that the stone was cut and faceted c.1880-1890, and WHAT a stone it is! This is easily the cleanest natural Ceylon sapphire I have ever beheld, and it is second to none for saturation, color, fire, and beauty!
Under 10x magnification, one can see the natural "silk" of the gemstone, as well as a minuscule teal-shaded inclusion near the culet, which indicates tourmaline, often seen in the host gems of untreated sapphires of Ceylon origin. (For an identical inclusion in a natural Ceylon sapphire under 30x magnification, see the last photo.) This stone has a clear growth fissure at the 3:00 position, but this is only visible under high magnification, and does not detract from this brilliant, one-of-a-kind sapphire. However, I have set my price with this in mind. The sapphire shoots out clear, blue fire out at every angle, and is mounted in a classic basket setting of platinum with four prongs securing the gem! This ring weighs in at 4.26 grams.
The shoulders of the ring sport six single-cut diamonds weighing approx. 4 points each, which set the sapphire off to its finest advantage. The total gem weight of the ring adds up to 3.87 carats! Needless to say, this ring looks magnificent on the hand, and represents not only a highly-wearable jewel, but a fine investment opportunity for the serious collector! It would make the ULTIMATE engagement ring for that special lady who prefers sapphires to diamonds, or an heirloom-worthy right hand ring! It is currently a size 5 1/4, but the plainness of the rear of the shank would allow for easy re-sizing by a good bench jeweler for little cost. JUST SPECTACULAR!
If you adore the NE PLUS ULTRA in magnificent sapphires.this ring belongs on your hand and in your collection! It would also make the gift of a lifetime for that special lady fond of untreated antique gemstones, and will be shipped in a gift box. This is the sort of ring that I would love to keep for my own collection, but one cannot keep it all and pay the bills! Let my loss be your gain; it is a privilege just to handle a ring of this caliber! Do not miss this phenomenal jewel; up to 4-month layaway is available, and USPS Priority or registered mail shipping is FREE!
