Dated and inscribed with the initials "CJ" and the date "1807," this Regency-era natural seed pearl and hair token bracelet is a miraculous survival!
Measuring just a hair over 6 1/4" long x 9 mm wide, this Georgian bracelet has made it into the 21st-century in as fine a condition as the most discerning collector could hope for, and would be the PERFECT "something old" for a spring or summer bride! This jewel boasts four strands of the tiniest natural seed pearls; all of the pearls are perfectly matched for color, and there are literally hundreds of them! The pearls measure from 1/2 mm up to 1.5mm for the largest, and are threaded to the original 9k rose-gold clasp (unmarked but tested)!
The clasp measures 5/8" x 3/8," and is set with a token of silver-white hair beneath it's original optical crystal. The token is framed by 20 silvery-white half pearls averaging 2 mm each. This rare shade of hair compliments the pearls perfectly, and was likely taken from an elderly relative of the original owner, Miss "C.J." Her initials are engraved on the reverse of the clasp in elegant script, over the date "1807." This bracelet would have been perfectly in keeping with the high-waisted white Empire gowns so popular during this decade, and it's original owner would have been a lady of wealth and fashion.
This bracelet will be sold with the fitted box in which it arrived; the is an early Victorian replacement of the original, but has served to keep this bracelet in exquisite condition. Today, this ultra-feminine Georgian bracelet would make a treasured addition to any collection of early 19th-century jewelry, and a wearable boon for the modern lady with a petite wrist! The pearls feel like silk on the wrist, and what a history!
If you cherish the finest in antique pearl jewelry, this bracelet belongs on your arm and in your collection! It would also make a superb gift for a young bride, or for any lady who adores the best in historic jewelry.
