Ring-a-ding-ding, it's time for Spring, and I am celebrating by listing some wonderful rings this week for the consideration of my Ruby Lane clientele!
Dating to 1800-1810, this elegant, Regency-era ring is a true rarity as well as a delight to behold! The "star" of this ring is the natural ruby cabochon, which is original to this jewel, and stone rarely seen in rings of this era! Measuring 1/2" x 1/2" across the curved bezel, the center of this ring is set with a beautiful ruby cabochon measuring 5 mm x 5 mm x 2.8 mm and weighing a calculated 3/4 carat! This ruby is the richest shade of red with the undertone of blue which is characteristic of the finest of these gemstones. The ruby is hand-carved, and under 10x magnification, one can even still see the tool marks from the lapidary who cut and polished this stunning stone!
The ruby is surrounded by a halo of 11 natural seed pearls, each measuring 2 mm. All of the pearls are original to the ring, and perfectly matched for color. The pearls boast a silvery sheen, which sets the ruby off to it's best advantage! All of the gems are set in pushed-up, closed-backed collets of 15k rose gold (unmarked but tested). The design of the shoulders and shank are of the "cigar band" variety, which was at its height of popularity from c.1800-1810. The shank tapers back to a sturdy 4 mm at the back, and the ring shows one re-sizing, which is perfectly in keeping with a jewel which has seen it's 200th birthday.
This ring is a size 5, and could be re-sized by laser for little cost. Weighing in at 2.88 grams, this ring is super-comfortable on the finger, and is in a magnificent state of preservation! Two of the pearls and the highest point of the ruby show some surface wear, but this is not visible on the hand, nor does it detract from the value and beauty of this special ring. This jewel is suitable for gentle daily wear, but ought to be treated with the respect that a ring of this great age deserves. SO UNIQUE!
If you collect the BEST in Georgian-era jewelry, this ruby and pearl stunner belongs on your hand and in your collection! It would also make a stellar gift for any lady fond of the finest in historic jewelry, and will be shipped in a gift box.
