Dating to c.1880, this French diamond, enamel and gold ring is a Victorian-era jewel with a rare and almost futuristic design!
Wrought and hallmarked for 9k gold and sterling silver, this fashion-forward jewel almost has an Art Deco appeal, but it pre-dates that movement by a good 50 years! The trio of old mine-cut diamonds are set in rubbed-over, open-backed collets of sterling silver. The center diamond measures 4.7 mm, and weighs a calculated 45 points. The top and bottom diamonds measure 4 mm, and weigh a calculated 33 points each. That adds up to 1.11 carats of dazzling Victorian diamonds!
As most collectors know, one cannot judge antique diamonds according to modern GIA standards, but these stones are white and bright, and are perfectly matched for color! They are the equivalent of H/I color and VS1 clarity, and really light up on the hand! The diamonds are free of chips or damage. The shoulders of this ring are simply amazing; they boast a geometric cut-out design, and the black tracery enamel give it an extra punch of dimension! The design is a variation on the Greek key so popular in enameled jewelry from 1865-1885, and the enamel is 90% intact after over 145 years! SO UNIQUE!
The back of the shank is stamped with the French swan hallmark for 9k gold, and the clover hallmark for sterling silver. This glittering beauty has made it into the 21st-century in practically unworn condition, and looks just as fresh on the hand today as when it was first worn by a French lady of fashion in the early 1880s! This ring is a size 6, and has never suffered re-sizing. It could easily be re-sized by a good bench jeweler for little cost, but to do so may remove the hallmarks.
Simply a one-of-a-kind Victorian jewel, this trilogy ring looks wonderful worn with anything from a business suit to that special little black dress, and is certain to become a staple of your antique diamond jewelry wardrobe! If you collect the NE PLUS ULTRA in Victorian rings, this diamond dazzler belongs on your hand and in your collection! It would also make a marvelous gift for any lady fond of the best in antique jewelry, and will be shipped in a gift box. Do not miss this superb French beauty; I never expect to find another like it, up to 60-day layaway is available, and USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
