Dating to c.1820-1830, the lovely devotional pendant is a wonderful example of late Georgian-era jewelry!
Measuring 1 5/8" long from the top of its original bail x 1 1/4" wide, this beautiful cross pendant combines white topaz, a vibrant citrine, and a emerald paste in the prettiest way possible! The three upper arms of the cross are set with white topazes which measure 9 mmx 5 mm x 4 mm and weigh a calculated 1.34 carats each. The larger golden citrine measures 16mm x 8.5 mm x 4 mm and weighs a calculated 4.25 carats. The emerald in the center of the cross is a paste, and weighs approx. two "carats." That adds up to 8.27 carats of genuine, antique gemstones, and 10.27 carats for the complete jewel!
All of the gemstones are claw-set in foiled, closed-backed collets of pinchbeck, the finest gold substitute ever produced! The white topazes are set with golden foils, giving them added depth and color; the citrine is the MOST delectable shade of golden honey, and the emerald paste gives this pendant just the right splash of color! As with most jewelry of the 1820s, the arms of the cross are finished with bead work.
Best of all, this gorgeous cross has made it into the 21st-century in all-original condition, without damage, repairs, or replacements! All of the stones are intact and free from facet wear, and the setting is untouched; this cross looks just as lovely today as when it first graced the neck of a lady of fashion and faith in the 1820s! This elegant jewel is just the right size to get noticed, and looks splendid worn on a gold chain, or wear it with a silk ribbon in true Georgian style!
Weighing in at 4.96 grams, this historic pendant can be dressed up or down; it looks just as pretty with blue jeans as with that special evening dress! If you collect the finest in antique devotional jewelry, this 190-year-old treasure belongs in your collection! It would also make a wonderful Valentine's Day or Easter gift for that special lady fond of historic English jewelry, and will be shipped in a gift box.
